Small consolations

I'm mightily relieved to see a flock of sparrows visiting the garden. OK, it's just seven of them but it's seven more than we've had this past couple of months. Sadly, just one is a juvenile. I'm hoping there's a few more on the assembly line somewhere down the road.

The collared doves, magpies and blue tits are travelling round in threes. In all three cases it's one adult and two juveniles. Perhaps this is a way of dividing up the risks of managing adolescents in a cat-filled world.

They all live with me! I've got dozens of them all having dirt baths on the driveway. And I have swallows in the garage... so the car can't park in there without getting covered in poo.

We never see a sparrow here. Everything else comes to feed - but no sparrows.
Why?

Am I alone in saluting single magpies, or are there other wee dafties oot there as well?

Sparrows are in abundance where we are, mostly because of the holly hedge.

One wonders at Scarlet having swallows in the garage. I normally swallow in the house.

I don't have great tits but I once almost had a shag.

Gadj, at least you didn't get the thrush. Boom boom.

Scarlet: I'm glad somebody's getting them.

I don't know, Kaz, it worries me greatly.

Jimmy: you're not, but I've not seen it done much lately.

Lulu and Madame DeF: you see what you've started. The boys are usually very well-behaved. I hope you're staisfied. (-:
