I don't mind the squirrel taking all the hazelnuts from the top of the bush before they're fully ripe. After all, I can't reach them so they may as well be doing somebody some good.
I do object to the furry hooligan barking at me for twenty minutes while I'm in the garden.
I must go and inspect the hedge - I haven't seen the squirrel or noticed any nuts this year.

I don't know much about gardening - you have a hazelnut bush? Is that common? I love hazelnuts but I never thought about growing my own.

Pat: I know they're starting to ripen when I see shell debris on the washhouse roof.
ReplyDeletelisleman: Quite common in England. I have a profusion of hazelnut bushes. It should be three but the squirrels have a habit of burying nuts for the winter and forgetting where they put them. Hazel's a lovely bush or small tree, worth growing for the smell of the leaves alone.
To train the squirrel you're going to need a dedicated rodent hating collie.

Squirrels can be very persistent can't they - one seems to have trained a young blackbird to go on at me in a similar fashion when I'm in the garden
