Signs and portents
A friend is having a few work issues at college, one of which is that he's got to be less judgemental when assessing the work of his students. Sorry, customers. Paying customers at that. "I should have my mark reassessed," said one. "I didn't realise there were questions on the back of the sheet."
These students are training to be lawyers.
These students appear well on the way, practicing arguments to achieve a result with no strong moral position.
ReplyDeleteBut have they been on the page turning course? It's a key skill in educational development, along with put your pens down now and write your own essays. Or is that just a sign of age?

I've always imagined it would be a good thing to employ a lawyer who is less smart than you are.

ReplyDeleteMadame DeF: this is the first generation that doesn't understand paper. All their homework was done by Googling the subject then cut'n'pasting stuff together.
Which is why some of the college assignments have begun "As stated earlier in this article..." And why the first citation on one paper was "ibid."
