That was Billy Cotton, Gadj. Wakey Wayyyyy-KAYYYYY!!! Da da da da da daaaa .... Mrs P, you must watch the Liberace opening number, he's playing your song. Russ was a pub pianist with matinee idol looks, and Liberace was the Elton John of his day. My nan fancied them both like mad.
Suddenly, my dull weekend (almost weekend) has just perked up. I shall go about my filial duties with a little spring in my step. Spike Jones is wonderful. But Tom Lehrer is still the man for me.
What's the Liberace opening number, Daph? Wait, is it the theme from Exodus? Kev? What is it? "This land is mine, this dah dah land is mine, dah dah dah dah this land is mine". Summat about landmines, anyway. Pat Boone? Help me out here.
Mme. de F: Today's first post may help assuage a long-felt want.
Mrs. P.: if I ever get my act together (which may be never) I'll see about converting some of my old tapes into a suitable format for uploading. One of my copies of the old Shadow radio shows ("who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men?") has a really creepy "this land is mine" monologue in the advertising break. It would appeal to your sense of the macabre.
Lulu: I have only ever once in my life worn Lurex and never again.
I will safe these delights for my breakfast!!

ReplyDeleteIs the host in the first one Wilfred Pickles, then?

ReplyDeleteCan we have some Bobby Crush next time Kev?
Daphs, I love Russ. Bobbikins is my fave rave tune of all time, and Kevs IS doing requests, whatever he may say.
ReplyDeleteI'll hold my hands up: I did look for Bobby Crush as well but couldn't get him on fillum (I was looking for one of the Seaside Specials).
ReplyDeleteLiberace was the excuse for me to post the Spike Jones skit, which is one of my favourites.

ReplyDeleteMy Mum used to like Liberace... but I don't remember any opening tune. Maybe Daph was referring to 'I've got a lovely pair of coconuts'?

Lovely to see Liberace - that spangly suit is fab - I can see you in that sort of thing Kev
